293 is an AGDA award-winning publication developed in response to Alan Morris’ 2019 research, ‘Gentrification and Displacement: The Forced Relocation of Public Housing Tenants in Inner Sydney’. The title refers to the 293 public housing properties earmarked for sale across Millers Point, The Rocks and the Sirius building, displacing a long established inner city community. The typographic system reflects this gradual erasure, with text obscured, disrupted and removed throughout the publication. As the content becomes harder to access, the design speaks to the loss of place, history and community caused by forced relocation.
